This page will list the major NC low bridges around Kerr Lake that maybe be affected by high water. Working on the Virginia side and will add as we get information.
The elevation (ELEV) is at the bridge and the (UNDER) column indicates the height of water measured at the dam that will cause the bridge to become covered.
In a nutshell, when the lake level, measured at the Dam exceeds 305 feet, be cautious at these bridges. Water may start to breach the bridge and hydroplaning may occur. Of course higher levels will cause complete bridge flooding. The NC DOT monitors the lake level and when it seems that the 305 level may be reached or exceeded, they will place high water caution signs and will barricaded when the bridge is flooded. Use caution and prudence when approaching these bridges and the lake is on the up rise.
As the safety slogan says; "It is better to turn around than drown."
